Spurs USL announcement

Spurs Sports and Entertainment named Tim Holt managing director of their USL franchise Friday morning. Holt will also serve as a VP for SS&E. Holt has previously served as league president for USL, but comes to San Antonio from Orlando City SC where he served as Vice President of Development.

Holt joins San Antonio head coach Darren Powell in the quest to build a roster ready to compete when the USL season starts in March. Powell also came to SA from Orlando City's development program. The two hirings suggest that the SA program will focus on youth over players that are past their prime.

Hiring staff from Orlando City SC seems to make sense as the Florida club took a path to MLS that San Antonio hopes to follow. Orlando played exclusively in USL from 2010-2014 before joining MLS for the 2015 season. OCSC still fields a USL team called Orlando City B that the SA USL team might face this year.

San Antonio's USL team will announce a name, crest, and team colors soon, but are expected to feature silver and black like the rest of the Spurs family of teams.
